What is Sky Link:
A multiplayer drone shooter blending what we love from Call of Duty with Flight Sims.
Challenges:
Accounting for verticality when most shooters only solve for the horizontal plane.
Designing a AAA experience within the scope and capabilities of a AA team.
Progression Design
The progression system was directly inspired by Warzones battle pass...
...and attachment system.
Tools Creation
Procedural spline systems quickly generates thousands of models at less of the performance cost of manually placed models. And bends them along the spline.
AI and Behavior Trees
Initial AI patrolled point to point only shooting after arrival. Now AI investigates sound, when damage is received, and and last seen location.
Prototyping - Racing Game Mode
A modular checkpoint system allows us to create a racing circuit of any length on any level. Each checkpoint has attributes that can be tuned by the designer.
Prototyping - Ping System
Context aware and color coded ping system replicated to other players.
Weekly QA Playtesting & User Experience
Frequently occurring points of feedback were around clarity of UI and pinging locations between players.
